In September of 2004 Evelyn Brookins and her business partner at the time, Carl Symons, formed Brookins & Symons Productions and turned Lullaby for a Child – a poem by Doris Peel – into the beautiful children’s book available through this website. Operating now as Brookins Productions, Evelyn has launched a variety of charity initiatives related to the book.
Evelyn has always treasured Lullaby’s comforting spiritual message. She sang it at bedtime to her three children and later to her grandchildren. She has long believed the poem had wider appeal, which she has seen evidence of as thousands of copies of the book have sold and it has won two national awards.
In 2007 The Just For Mom Foundation awarded Lullaby its Mom’s Choice Gold Medal for illustrations that are imaginative and colorful with eye-catching details that support and enhance the book’s message. In 2008 it was awarded a Silver Medal from the Nautilus Book Awards, again for the illustrations contributed by James Staunton of San Diego.
